On Thursday, September 5th, approximately 75 volunteers and spouses attended and enjoyed an end of summer picnic on the pantry garden grounds. Grill master Dan Vining expertly cooked hamburgers and hot dogs. A treat for some was authentic “snappy grillers”, an Upstate New York favorite German white sausage. Dan personally brought these back from Syracuse. What’s next Dan, another Syracuse favorite, “salt potatoes”? For dessert, attendees were treated to a combination of homemade cookies and ample slices of delicious pantry garden grown mini watermelons.
On September 7th we served 137 households comprised of 501 individuals. We welcomed 3 new households and 16 new individuals.
During the previous week we were grateful to receive 106 pounds of apples collected by the St. Andrews gleaners.
On Saturday we welcomed several students from Christ School who helped with shopping and other tasks in the pantry.
The pantry continues to be blessed by the many dedicated volunteers. Their generous gift of the many, many hours they give is invaluable. We are grateful for the Tuesday “Manna Delivery Day Crew” the Friday “Shopping Preparation Crew ”, the dedicated “Lord’s Acre Gardener Crew” and the Saturday “Shopper Assistance Crew”. Thanks to each volunteer!
We continue to recognize and thank partner churches, community members, civic organizations, schools, retirement communities, donors, foundations, and all who have contributed in some way to this ministry of service to those experiencing food insecurity.
