February 28, 2024
February has proven to be another eventful month at the Pantry. Donations have been generous as our "neighbor numbers" continue to increase. A monetary contribution from the Thrift Shop, located at St. James Episcopal Church, Hendersonville, has helped us meet the goal of 3 1/2 days of food or 11 meals for each of our families. This week is no exception to the activities. Last Saturday, the youth volunteers filled 50 bags of sand at the garden to hold a tarp in place as we begin our spring gardening. Our weekly pickup of canned items has increased to the extent that we've moved to bulk ordering. A crew of volunteers picked up five pallets of food at Sav-Mor that could be hauled on a trailer to the Pantry. Food was provided to 131 families representing 477 individuals. We welcomed twelve new families.
"Steady State" will be playing at the Blue Ghost Brewery from 6:30-8:30 on Saturday, March 2 as a Fundraiser for the Pantry.
Donations this week included Bright Farms, Flavor-First, Tierra Fertile Co-op, Wal-Mart and Big Lots, Humane Society, and MilkCo. Fletcher UMC, St. James Episcopal, Nativity Lutheran, Calvary Episcopal, and the Tabernacle of Praise Churches, and other anonymous donors contributed their time, food, or misc. items during the week.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, thank you to our volunteers and our area churches, civic groups, local merchants, and families for all you do to feed our community helping to reduce food insecurity. We thank you and appreciate your food and monetary donations.
