Christian Formation for Adults during Lent

During Lent, there will be virtual opportunities for worship and study to help guide us during this time of inner reflection. First, we will have an Ash Wednesday Service at 7 pm on Feb. 17 th , streamed from Calvary’s sanctuary.

On Sunday evenings beginning Feb. 21st, will meet at 6 pm on Sunday evenings for Evensong. Each Sunday, Father J., Mother Nan and Deacon Jacque will take turns offering a short homily with follow up discussion on what are traditionally called the Seven Last Words of Christ. These refer to scriptures taken from different gospels, which together form what Jesus said from the cross on Good Friday. In addition to this, we will also sing Taize music accompanied by Peggy White and Milli Wyman on the piano. Links to the live stream will be included in both the Friday Calvary e-newsletter, in the previous Sunday bulletin and on our website.

Wednesday nights beginning Feb. 24th at 7 pm, the topic from the previous Sunday will be further discussed with those who join, this time in a Zoom format. Again, a link to this will be made available in the same venues described above.

These are weekly the scriptures we will follow, so that you may reflect on them in advance. The last two will be the subject of some of our Holy Week services at noon.

1. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34).

2. “You will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43).

3. “Woman, behold your son!” (John 19:26-27).

4. “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46).

5. “I thirst!” (John 19:28).

6. “It is finished!” (John 19:30).

7. “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit’” (Luke 23:46).

Please join us as a way to deepen your Lenten practice.
