Coming This Fall in Children's Formation!

As you know, once the spacious new building for the Calvary Food Pantry was up and running, this allowed for three classroom spaces to be returned their original purpose. Where there used to be shelves of food, there is now classroom furniture, and shelves for learning materials. The rooms were painted in lively colors, and we await student artwork to decorate the walls!

Even though we cannot yet gather to teach in person on Sundays, we will be offering streamed Sunday School classes for each age group from the newly decorated classrooms.  We will alternate Sunday lessons weekly for the Godly Play program and the Rotations program. Godly Play is designed for the (Pre-K/K – 2nd grade) age group, and the Rotations age group is geared for (3rd – 6th grader). Please note that these foundational lessons will be invaluable for the entire age range. All programs will stay posted so that they can be watched at the family’s convenience.  Last but not least, once a month we will offer a Zoom program for the Youth which can lead to Confirmation.

The first lesson will be streamed on September 6th.  This Rotation is called Samuel - the Boy Who Listened. We will start with the Bible Story told from the Rotations Classroom Puppet Theatre.

On September 13th, the Godly Play lesson will introduce the Liturgical Calendar Puzzle. This curriculum uses a variety of “manipulatives” (wooden, felt or laminated learning pieces) for storytelling which your children will enjoy exploring when we gather again going forward.

A full schedule of dates for each age group and lesson is posted below.

The Great Family

Most importantly, I would like to thank all the people who have helped to prepared the classrooms in the recent months! Volunteers are invited to help with the filming of the various lessons, in a variety of ways, so feel free to contact Mother Nan.

Our sexton John Bailey who painted the classrooms and helped in numerous facets of the preparation.

Woodworker Ted Hill recently built the shelves for the Godly Play Classroom. This is essentially a Montessori style classroom with child accessible shelves of materials that are used consecutively through the Liturgical Seasons of the year. He also had already made the desert sand box on wheels which is used for Old Testament stories, as well as a set of wooden Bible times people. He made the Lenten Children’s Stations of the Cross, and the Liturgical Calendar puzzle. These are all items used for storytelling, and which children can explore independently in their free time when we gather.

Kathy Noyes made the colorful puppet theatre for the Rotations room, and donated an ‘It’s a Small World’ wall hanging for the Godly Play classroom.

Betty & Bob Robbins, and Kathy Noyes helped move furniture into the classrooms.

Callie Otten is making the manipulatives for the Godly Play ‘Creation’ lesson and the ‘Advent’ lesson coming up later this fall.

Thank you all for going the extra mile to keep the Christian Formation programs for Children and Youth going, so that when we gather again, we will not have skipped a beat!  The love and passion with which you live out your discipleship at Calvary is inspiring and deeply appreciated.
