A Conversation with Jon Elliston

What, exactly, are the monuments at Calvary? How did they get there and what are they for? Who’s idea was all of this, and are they just like all of the other monuments we have been hearing about?

Journalist Jon Elliston is a native of Buncombe County and has spent years researching the history of confederate monuments in this region. Along the way, he noticed the monuments at Calvary and found them peculiar. In an article written for the Mountain Xpress, Mr. Elliston shared what he had found and illuminated a seeming disconnect between these monuments and the life of the parish today.
