The tune for the prelude is "Holy Manna", familiar to many, The setting is by the American composer Lynn L. Peterson (b. 1962) currently teaching at Carroll College in Montana but, beside composing (and sometimes delving into jazz), she travels often for festivals and workshops.
Our processional hymn, "Awake, arise, lift up your voice, let Easter music swell" (212), is, as you will note in the hymnal, a very old hymn, but a very popular one and one we sing often during this season.
Our Gospel hymn, 206 (verses 1-3), is the wonderful tune "O filii, o filiae" -- " O sons and daughters", especially appropriate for this second Sunday of Easter. The text, as you may note, dates back to the 15th century. I think everyone knows the tune!
In place of a choir "anthem", we will all sing hymn 417, "This is the feast of victory for our God", a hymn I think everyone likes to sing and one appropriate anytime but especially during the Easter season. The text, of course, is from Revelation.
The communion hymns will be 307 (Lord enthroned in heavenly splendor) and 209 (We walk by faith and not by sight).
Closing, we will sing "This joyful Eastertide" (192), another very old but most popular
Easter hymn. It is impressive how wonderful music lasts through the centuries!
The postlude will be a David Lasky (contemporary American) setting of "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty", a hymn tune loved by all.
