January 1, 2025

From the garden last week, our last harvest for 2024 provided 41 pounds of carrots.  This brings our total for the year to 4,388 pounds. That is about a 25% increase from 2023, of 3600 pounds. Chef Martha connected with the WLOS Carolina Kitchen today for a videotaping and used some carrots from the garden for her carrot salad. She also prepared tortellini with broccoli and stirred up a warm cabbage soup.

Lois and Lauren distributed blankets to our neighbors provided by Manual Woodworkers of Hendersonville, The UNCA Pharmacy Interns from UNC Eschelman Pharmacy School offered blood pressure checks, glucose testing, and Flu and COVID vaccines. The Youth group from Nativity Lutheran brought 496 pounds of food from their Christmas food drive. Veritas also made a donation of food which was distributed the following Saturday.

Martha coordinated our Christmas Dinner distribution on December 21. We welcomed 149 households representing 529 individuals.

On behalf of our Pantry Board, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous food and monetary donations to our pantry. Your donations will make a significant impact on the lives of those in our community who are struggling with food insecurity.

Happy New Year to one and all!
