"Enjoy your fresh vegetables," our produce volunteers chanted on Saturday morning! Carrots, Collards, and Bok Choy were all harvested from the garden on Thursday afternoon and offered to our neighbors on Saturday. Bright Farms', organic lettuce, Flavor First tomatoes, and a variety of fruit were available too.
Thursday afternoon, a team from Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church, Baskerville Food Pantry and the Blessing Box drove from Pawley's Island, SC pulling a U-Haul trailer filed with food and supplies. Terri, Lisa, and Ken are part of the Baskerville Food Pantry whose vision is that everyone has access to sufficient and nutritious food. One of their core values is responding to the needs of the community through food distribution especially after the catastrophic Hurricane, Helene. Not only did they donate over 1800 pounds of food and supplies, they volunteered on Friday morning and helped stock the shelves for our Saturday distribution. It's organizations like the Baskerville Food Pantry that assist us in being able to provide 11 meals or 3 1/2 days of food to help alleviate food uncertainty in our community.
We welcomed 91 neighbors representing 347 individuals. Ten new families joined us representing 51 individuals. Knitted toboggans and shawls, hand crafted by The Prayer Shawl Ministry of Holy Cross Faith Memorial Church were offered to our families.
On behalf of our Pantry Board, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous food and monetary donations to our pantry. Your donations will make a significant impact on the lives of those in our community who are struggling with food insecurity.
