Last Saturday was not for the weak of heart but for the hardy. It was everything Jason, the WLOS meteorologist, promised.... Weather Warn Day....CCCCCold and flurries!!! We are so fortunate to have volunteers who are not only hardy but arrived well before our morning food distribution time. The Vinings have lived in the Buffalo, NY area. Kim has lived in Maine, and Jeff in Michigan. While others of us have experienced the four seasons in the Asheville area. Ninety-two households shopped on Saturday representing 307 individuals. Five new families registered with us.
Manna delivered 7,700 pounds of food to us on Tuesday. Included with this delivery were many bonus items from The Emergency Food Assistance Program. Some of the items we received were canned salmon, beef stew, split green peas, raisins, garbanzo and kidney beans, four kinds of frozen meat, lentils, juice, and pasta sauce. In our regular order, we received milk and fresh produce, consisting of cabbage, cucumbers, and spaghetti squash. Chef Martha prepared a tasty warm soup made from split peas available for the pantry neighbors to taste.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, thank you to our volunteers and our area churches, civic groups, local merchants, and families for all you do to feed our community helping to reduce food insecurity. We thank you and appreciate your food and monetary donations.
