‘Twas the week before Christmas and all through the pantry…not a volunteer was stirring only a freezer a whirring....One week later....."What should my thankful eyes observe," but a Manna delivery truck loaded with 7,500 pounds of food. Over the next two Saturdays, we will distribute these food items to our neighbors. Some of the items we received included fresh produce of eggplant, spaghetti squash, and onions. Also in our delivery was shelf food of pineapple, pasta, and peanut butter.
On December 20th, Kelly Dees and her mom, Ramona Bryson, appeared at the pantry with a sleigh (SUV) packed with over 200 pounds of food collected from Hendersonville Middle School Food Drive and Dance. On December 26, Karen Rich and Carol Copeland surprised us with about 200 pounds of food collected from High Vista Homeowners Association. All donations are on our shelves to offer to our neighbors on Saturday. Our shelves were greatly depleted after 183 families arrived on December 16 representing 688 people. We welcomed twelve new families.
Just a reminder that volunteers are needed at the hoop house on Friday morning, December 29, at 8:30 to pick two rows of lettuce. We will be distributing the fresh lettuce on Saturday morning. Hope you can join us.
Donations this week include Bimbos and City Bakery with bread and bakery items. Bright Farms donated 25 cases of salad. Other donors include: Flavor-First-tomatoes and peppers, Wal-Mart and Big Lots-misc items and food, Project Dignity-feminine products, Humane Society- dog/cat food and MilkCo-milk. Calvary Episcopal, Nativity Lutheran, Fletcher UMC, the Tabernacle of Praise Churches, and other anonymous donors contributed their time, food, and misc. items during the week.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, thank you to our volunteers and our area churches, civic groups, local merchants, and families for all you do to feed our community helping to reduce food insecurity. We thank you and appreciate your food and monetary donations.
