When you think of celebrity chefs, Martha Stewart and Paula Dean may come to mind. We too have Martha, Linda, and Joe who are preparing tasty recipes from items available to our neighbors in the pantry. This past Saturday Chef Martha prepared a mouth-watering burrito filled with sautéed veggies and an egg. Girl Scouts from Troop 2984 and 2987 prepared a dozen "Birthday Bags" for our neighbors filled with cake mix, icing, candles, plates napkins, and candles. Trust me they were well received! A heartfelt thank you goes out to Sammy from Fletcher Feed and Seed who drove his semi to Sav-Mor to pick up a bulk order for the pantry. Averaging over 130 neighbors each week, we have to restock some items during distribution time. Having an inventory is helping assure our neighbors have opportunities to select items appropriate for their family.
On Saturday, we served 131 households representing 501 individuals and welcomed eight new families. We are announcing to our neighbors that on November 18, our Thanksgiving meal will be included after regular shopping. Our meal consists of a turkey, potatoes, turkey gravy, stuffing mix, fresh green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, and butter. If you would like to make a donation, we are collecting stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, and gravy. The other items have been ordered in bulk. Any monetary donations for turkeys are appreciated and can be mailed to Calvary Episcopal Church Food Pantry P.O. Box 187 Fletcher, NC 28752.
Donations this week included Bimbos and City Bakery with bread and bakery items. Bright Farms donated 25 cases of salad. Other donors include. Flavor-First-tomatoes , peppers, squash, zucchinis, Wal-Mart and Big Lots, misc items and food, Project Dignity-feminine products, Humane Society- dog/cat food and Milk Co-milk. Nativity Lutheran, Fletcher UMC, Calvary Episcopal, the Tabernacle of Praise Churches, and other anonymous donors contributed their time, food, and misc. items during the week.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, thank you to our volunteers and our area churches, civic groups, local merchants, and families for all you do to feed our community helping to reduce food insecurity. We thank you and appreciate your food and monetary donations.

Work in the hoophouse Thursday, Nov. 2, at 4:00
It’s finally cooling off fast, but it’s warm(er) in the hoophouse. Join us there Thursday afternoon to plant lettuce and beets, to add hoops to rows, pick peppers a final time, and pull plants to make room for carrots. Lots to do. Please join us. No experience necessary. (We’ll give collards another week or so to size up.)
Forty Volunteers at Last Week’s Thank-You Cookout
It was so gratifying to see volunteers gather in the garden for a cookout to listen to great music, eat burgers and hotdogs, and enjoy each other’s company, as we do each week in the pantry and garden. We said it then, and will say it many times more: thanks for all you do. You are essential to this wonderful ministry!
