Advent Food and Formation

We’re on a mission, from God.

As a community of faith, our life at Calvary is centered in worship, and at the end of every worship service we are called to go out into the world. Like energy from a spinning top, we are sent from the church to participate in God’s mission of reconciliation and healing. Throughout Advent, our Food and Formation series will focus on the ways in which Calvary carries out this work we are called to do.

On Wednesday, November 30, our guests will be Joyce Pipkin of Education = Hope and Mtr. Carmel Chery, a priest in the Diocese of Haiti. For several years, Calvary has supported two students in Haiti through Education = Hope, and this program will help us learn more about their work.

On December 7, we will be joined by Doug Kearny, Garden Manager for The Lord’s Acre of Fletcher, and Delia Jovel of Tierra Fértil Cooperative. Doug and Delia will share with us about the work that is happening on Calvary’s land to grow food, hope, and sustainable communities.

Jennifer Lutz, MANNA FoodBank Director of Agency Relations and Mobile Programs, and Kristen Ollila, Agency Relations Manager will be our guests on December 14. They will help us put the work of Calvary’s Food Pantry into the context of food insecurity throughout Western North Carolina.

We hope you will join us each Wednesday at 6:00 for a simple meal, followed by these programs and a discussion of how Calvary is called to participate in God’s mission to the whole world. Please call the office at 684-6266, email Mother Nan at nwoodworth@calvaryfletcher.org, or just show up to participate!
